COURSE DESCRIPTION:
NCBTMB approved 20 Hands on CEUs

The class is designed to take the therapist from the thought process of why athletes do what they do, how do they think, how their bodies work. The series begins with the basics, what is sports massage, what techniques are used, when can we do massage on an athlete, types of athletes, other modalities and how they work with massage, After the basics we move into Pre and Post event massage; this covers timing, techniques, first aid considerations, how to get into various events and marketing at them. Maintenance for the athlete is the next area covered; again, timing considerations and techniques used. The series finished with an injury based final 10 hours where we discuss common athletic injuries, treatment and the role of the massage therapist within scope. Students will be required to demonstrate knowledge of techniques prior to class completion.

Students need sheets for the tables, several hand towels and bath towels, comfortable clothing as a large portion of hands on will be done clothed, cocoa butter (solid) is best for lubricant, kinesiotape is provided but only some, students may bring a roll of their own as well for practice. All students MUST bring a good attitude, a sense of humor and the desire to have fun while learning.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Barbara Uniatowski, LMT
Barbara began her core massage training of over 500 hours in Swedish, Deep Tissue
and Orthopaedic Massage Therapy in 1998, and has been learning ever since.
With additional training in the following modalities, Barbara brings an extensive toolbox
of techniques to the massage table; Sports, Neuromuscular, Connective Tissue
/Myofascial Release, Prenatal, Orthopaedic, Neuro-Structural Taping, Thai Yoga Massage
and Active Release Techniques®.
During her career Barbara has educated many therapists in core education as well as
continuing education courses. From Spas and Chiropractic offices to locker rooms and
playing fields, all have been home to Barbara's massage table.
With more than 19 years experience, Barbara finds the time spent with Olympic and
Paralympic athletes at the US Olympic Training Center among her favorite.
